The Respironics battery adapter cable allows you to create a 12V outlet from a free-standing 12V battery in order to run your CPAP machine using a 12V cord (sold separately).
The battery adapter cable, with its red and black clamps which hook directly to battery terminals, provides a 12V outlet. One end of a 12V cord, or cigarette lighter cord, can be plugged into the 12V outlet of the battery adapter cable while the other end is plugged into the 12V DC input port on the CPAP machine.
You can use any 12V battery with exposed battery terminals. Good choices are car batteries and deep cycle marine batteries. The 12V cord can be plugged into any 12V outlet such as that found in a car, boat, or RV. We've even used the 12V cord plugged into a 3 Million Candlepower Flashlight (which has a built-in 12V outlet on the front). At a pressure setting of 8 cm H
2O and using a fully charged battery, the run time on a REMstar Plus CPAP machine is 12 hours.
Right now, the flashlight battery option is probably the least expensive method of operating a CPAP machine from a battery. Just make sure you get a rechargeable flashlight with a 12V outlet built into it.
The DC Battery Adapter Cable, when connected to either the DC Interface Module or the DC 12V Cord, enables Respironics CPAP and Bi-level machines to be operated from a 12 VDC deep cycle marine-type battery.
Caution: DO NOT connect the cable to a battery that is installed in a vehicle or has any additional equipment connected to it.
Respironics recommends a fully charged 100 A-hour 12 VDC deep cycle marine-type battery to operate your Respironics machine. Us of a battery rated less than 100 A-hours may reduce the length of operation.
Connections
- The black clamp must always be connected to the negative post, and the red clamp must always be connected to the positive post of the battery.
- Do not allow the clamps to come in contact with each other.
- Do not allow both clamps to come into contact with the same battery post.
- Do not allow loose fitting metal jewelry to touch the battery posts while you are connecting the cable.
- Always disconnect the cables from the battery and the unit before moving the equipment.
- Not for use in a mobile environment.
