Great Machine April 2, 2009
Reviewer: Glen Bowden from Myrtle Beach, SC United States
I replaced my original unit of 6 years with this unit.  First night on it and my wife complained she couldn't sleep due to it being so quite.  it was different to get used to as it went to full speed after i was asleep really great.  Also thanks Drew and crew for not ripping me off like the local hospital supply company was going to do.  Wish i would have found you for my head gear as well but i will be back.  thanks again

Awesome machine!! January 5, 2009
Reviewer: Michael Smith from United States
This is my first auto-cpap machine, I've had it about a month, and I love it!  My Remstar Pro with C-flex that I got after being diagnosed several years ago finally gave out after 14,000+ hours.  It was a great machine.  In my opinion, this one is even better.  I'll give my take on various aspects of the machine.

(1) Price ***** The purchase price at cpap-supply.com included the heated humidifier, and was basically half of a similar Resmed or Respironics auto cpap machine.  Enough said there!!  With this machine, less expensive does not equate with lower quality.  As discussed below, I think this is a higher quality machine than the Remstar it replaces.

(2) Quality of Construction ***** This machine feels much more solid and sturdy than my Remstar Pro with C-flex.  The construction and design of the heated humidifier is sturdier, seems to work better, and is better designed.  The humidifier slides in and "clicks" under the unit--there's no splashing or potential backwash into the machine as there was with the Remstar design if it were overfilled (my older brother had two Remstar machines destroyed because of humidifier backwash).  The lighted LCD display panel is bright with big easy to read numbers--no need to put on my glasses.  The lighted control buttons are large and easy to see (no need to feel around in the dark to guess which button I'm pressing).  But the great thing about the unit is that once you've got it set up the way you like, there's never any buttons to push (except hitting the off button in the morning).  This machine comes with a 3-year warranty, and that says something about the company.

(3) Performance ***** Wow, auto CPAP is definitely the way to go!  This machine does not have C-flex or EPR (expiratory pressure relief).  However, I don't even miss it.  My other machine was set at a constant 13 cm H2O with the C-flex set on 2.  So when I got this machine, I set it in the Auto mode to run between 10-15 cm pressure (factory settings are 5-20 cm).  Wow!!  Auto CPAP works, and because as I go to sleep with the lower pressure (10 cm.), I don't even notice that there's no C-flex or EPR (even with C-flex set on 2, I was still exhaling against 11 cm of pressure on my old machine--or so I'm told).  The machine in Auto CPAP mode is extremely quiet (even if I wake up and see it's blowing 14.3 cm of pressure, I can't hear the machine).  My Remstar was much louder.  The humidifier has 10 settings, and when set on 5 on the Pacific coast--low humidity zone--it holds two nights of distilled water.  I tried running the machine on CPAP mode set at a constant 13 cm for one night.  I did notice that the machine seemed to be considerably louder when run in CPAP mode.  I liked the Auto CPAP so much more that I turned it back to Auto mode after one night.  CPAP-Supply now sells the software to go with this machine, and I can't wait to get it (not that I'd ever be one to tinker with my doctor's prescription or wisdom).  Another thing that's great about this machine is the automatic start.  Both the machine and the heated humidifier start automatically with one little breath.  I had to push a button on my Remstar to start the humidifier and then take several deep breaths before the Remstar would come on, and if my wife talked to me for more than twenty minutes :-) I had to reach down and push the humidifier button again.  With this machine, you simply put on your mask whenever you want and the machine and humidifier automatically turn on with the first little breath.  I'm extremely pleased with this machine, and I don't regret at all not purchasing a more expensive Respironics or Resmed.  The factory set-up and user manuals provided with the machine were easy to follow.  You can easily modify and adjust practically every setting on the machine by following the manuals provided.  You can either "set it and forget it" or tinker endlessly with all the various options in search of the perfect night's sleep.  This machine lets you do both.  Once it's set up, all you have to do each night is add a little distilled water, put your mask on, and the machine does the rest.  You don't have to push any buttons every night.  You can also program a gradual "ramp up" for the pressure (something I've never needed or wanted to do), and it also has an auto-off setting you can activate, so that if you get up in the middle of the night, the machine shuts off automatically and then starts back up as soon as you put your mask back on.

(4) Additional Comments.  The heated humidifier takes some practice to fill from a distilled water jug.  However, I have less problem with spillage than with my Remstar (I used to put that machine on a towel as I invariably spilled a little water filling the humidifier).  As mentioned, at least my machine runs louder in CPAP mode than in Auto CPAP mode.  It might just be my machine.  However, in my opinion, the Auto mode is so vastly superior, I have no plans to ever run the machine in CPAP mode again.  The machine gives you however much pressure it senses you need (and that might be 10.2, 12.6, 13.4, 14.9, or anywhere in between).  One thing that's great about Auto Mode is that if I sleep on my back, the machine will give me more pressure and if I'm on my side it will lower the pressure automatically.  With my old CPAP machine, I always felt like a constant 13 cm. was great on my back, but was too much pressure when I was sleeping on my side.  Since switching to this machine, I have had no problems whatsoever with "Aerophagia."  I also notice that while usually the machine pushes less than 13 cm (my prescription), sometimes I notice its pushing 14-15 cm.  It makes me wonder how many times I needlessly was aroused with my other machine if I occasionally needed more pressure than the constant 13 cm.  Most of the fellow cpap users I've met quickly become self-educated sleep enthusiasts and connoisseurs.  If you are one of those, you won't be disappointed with this machine.  If you simply want a machine you can "set and forget," you also won't be disappointed.  My experience in the last month with auto-cpap is that I've had more nights of having no memory of ever waking up than I ever did with my previous cpap machine.

WOW! Love this Unit April 21, 2008
Reviewer: Vicki   from El Paso, TX United States
Bought this unit to use for travel exclusively and keep my larger machine at home, but after using is for a few nights, I have switched to this unit exclusively!  It's nearly silent and very small & compact.  Option setup is easy too.  The water container for the humidifier has to have just the right angle when you pour the water, but it's no big deal.  Have also traveled once with it already and amazed at the weight & bulk difference of the case & the unit.  Since it can fit in my carry on luggage, I'm not limited to one carry on any longer!  Great find for me!
