Why Use CPAP Aromatherapy?
If you're new to CPAP therapy then you can use the desensitization and aromatherapy process to become comfortable with the new sensory inputs from CPAP equipment. This makes it easier for you to sleep with your new CPAP equipment. Unassisted, this process may take weeks or months. If you've already acclimated to CPAP therapy, then this product will make your CPAP experience that much more pleasurable.
Because our sense of smell is directly connected to the emotional centers of the brain, nothing brings about feelings of comfort, peace, calm, and relaxation better or faster than good smells. Our products have helped thousands get used to their equipment!
By focusing your attention on an aroma that you find pleasant, other sensory inputs cannot compete for your attention. This is called "cognitive distraction" and it's a powerful feature of the sense of smell. Accomodation is another part of olfaction, meaning that the brain quickly adjusts to pleasant smells. This part of olfaction will help your mind accept your therapy more quickly!
CPAP distractions can be so overwhelming that many people give up on therapy despite the consequences of untreated apnea. Your subconscious mind has the ability to tune out these distractions once it accepts that they are not threatening. Unfortunately, this process can take a long time to happen by itself.
It may not look like much but it doesn't take much of your favorite aromatic to make all the difference! The system uses a raised tray and a specialized compressed fiber material. Just a drop or two of your favorite aromatic placed on the pad lightly scents the air as the air is drawn into your CPAP. It's fully compatible with all types of positive airway pressure equipment.
Imagine closing your eyes and feeling your frustrations melt away as you revel in th elight scent of orange and clove, peppermint and lime, or authentic French lavender!
The Pur-Sleep system includes only 100% natural aromatics - also known as essential oils. No synthetic aromatics are used.
What If I've Been Using CPAP Therapy Successfully for Years?
If you're an experienced CPAP user, then you obviously don't need this product in order to become comfortable using your CPAP equipment. Instead, you'll use the Pur-Sleep system to start to enjoy using your CPAP equipment. Your bed partner may also enjoy the various aromas included in the starter pack.
Do Men Use This Product?
Absolutely! CPAP aromatherapy or desensitization might seem like something geared toward women, but men like good smells as much as women do. Also, men can find peace and tranquility from pleasing sensory input just as much as women. And if that's no enough to convince you skeptical men out there, Mike here at CPAP-Supply.com uses Pur-Sleep. His favorite aroma is "clear".
Directions
Experiment with the oils to find one that you find to be pleasant. To dispense oils, open the bottle, cover the dispenser with a Diffusion Pad and quickly turn over the bottle and pad. This procedure will dispense about one drop of oil. Repeat the same procedure on a different spot on the pad to dispense more drops as desired.
Place the scented Diffusion Pad into the slot in the Diffusion Stand. You can either slide one end of the Diffusion Stand beneath the air filter on the back of your machine or bend down the ends of the Diffusion Stand to create a raised tray as shown in the picture. Place the Diffuser so that the top is about one inch below the CPAP air intake. It may be necessary to elevate either the CPAP or the Diffuser to achieve this configuration. Be sure that your equipment is secure. Avoid drafty areas (ceiling fans, vents). Then use your equipment as usual.
If the aroma is too strong, move the Diffuser away from the air intake and use less oil the next time. If the smell is not strong enough, make sure that the air intake is about 3/4 to one inch above the top of the Diffuser. Do not block the air intake! Remember that a light background aroma is best and that the smell will be the strongest during the first 20 minutes.
Use the same pad for the same oil type. Store pads in a small zip-lock plastic bag. Pads may be washed as desired with plenty of mild detergent. Rinse well and air dry.
Just a Few Drops of Essential Oils
The sense of smell varies widely from person to person. We strongly recommend starting with just one or two drops of our essential oil products and adding a few more if necessary to suit your personal tastes. With essential oils, the rule "less is more" applies. We do not recommend using more than 5 drops. Avoiding drafts and placing the drops in different locations on the Diffusion Pad will facilitate diffusion.
Our essential oils are extremely concentrated--a very small amount goes a long way and consist of 100% volatile oils (meaning that they evaporate into the air over time). Remember that 5ml of essential oils equals about 100 drops.
