Fisher & Paykel Healthcare entered the OSA market in the early 1990’s with the development of the first ever humidifier to be used with a CPAP. At this stage, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was already aware of the benefits of heated humidification with ventilation in the ICU setting and therefore adapted this technology to offer a product that worked with CPAP to improve therapy comfort.
This humidifier innovation broke new ground. Fisher & Paykel Healthcare undertook extensive clinical investigations to provide adequate evidence that heated humidification improves patient comfort and compliance with CPAP through the alleviation of upper airway discomfort. This research was instrumental in having heated humidification reimbursed by insurers in the United States.
Today, humidification is relatively mature with most of the sleep community understanding its benefits and many companies offering a humidifier option. However, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare continues to lead the way in humidification offering superior product with the most advanced humidification technologies, in both our stand alone humidifier and our integrated CPAPs.
