Fisher & Paykel Healthcare entered the OSA market in the early 1990’s with the development of the first ever humidifier to be used with a CPAP. This humidifier innovation broke new ground. Fisher & Paykel Healthcare undertook extensive clinical investigations to provide adequate evidence that heated humidification improves patient comfort and compliance with CPAP through the alleviation of upper airway discomfort. This research was instrumental in having heated humidification reimbursed by insurers in the United States.
